Y2 Day 259 – 2 Pet 3; Is 31-32

For a description of the (Y2) reading plan, see the “About” page.

2 Pet. 3

What does Peter say about the coming “Day of the Lord?” How should it impact our daily lives? What does God want for everyone?  Peter wrote his two letters, “as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking.” (2 Pet. 3:1b).  He then gives a reminder of the end of the story.  The way we keep our thoughts right today is to remember the consequences for those who doubt, distort, or outright deny God’s truth.  Peter warns the faithful to not forget, make every effort, and be on your guard concerning these things.  When we choose to trust that God’s word is true, it will help us remain steadfast and, “to live holy and godly lives as [we] look forward to the day of God” (2 Pet. 3:11b-12a).

Is. 31-32

Where are you tempted to go for help rather than the Lord?  It is foolishness to think that there is security in anything other than God alone.  There is nowhere to hide or escape from God’s wrath, and nothing can protect us from it.  Our only hope is to run to, not away from, God.  “Like birds hovering overhead, the LORD Almighty will shield Jerusalem; He will shield it and deliver it, He will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.” (Is. 31:5).  Jerusalem – in God’s presence – is where we want to be.
