Day 17 – Job 22-24; Matt 12:1-23

Job 22-24

Well, now Eliphaz is just making stuff up!!  He lays out accusations to Job that couldn’t be further from the truth!  Note to self:  the act of making stuff up to fit your desired rhetoric has been around awhile!!  Job thinks God has left him, but we know that isn’t true – God is with Job and has spared his life…not that that seems like a good thing to Job at the moment.  And it is interesting how Job is terrified of God yet still trusts that God will acquit him upon hearing his case.

Matt. 12:1-23

The Sabbath – there’s that “letter of the law” thing again.  It seems that “do no work” on the Sabbath is not the same as “do no good” on the Sabbath.  I don’t believe in situational ethics, but I do think Jesus shows that it is not right to let religion prevent you from helping others or meeting a need – even your own.  Attitudes and motives – not that it is right to sin for the right reasons, but more that it is useless to be lawful for the wrong ones.
