  2. How does the passage point to Jesus?
  3. How should the truth of this passage change me?
  4. How do the events of today’s reading help you better understand the grand narrative of Scripture?
Ps. 65

“Iniquities overwhelm me; only You can atone for our rebellions.  How happy is the one You choose and bring near to live in your courts!  We will be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple.” (Ps. 65:3-4).  That is the message of salvation!  We need God; only He can save us.  But when He does, we are filled with all the goodness the rest of this Psalm expresses.  Amen!

Ps. 66

“…we went through fire and water, but you brought us out to abundance.” (Ps. 66:12b).  And that is the Christian life.  We pass through the water – from death to life – to share in Christ’s suffering.  We than pass through the fire, where God refines, as the Psalm says, like silver.  But once we get to the other side…abundance,, joy, and all of God’s blessing.  Amen again!

Ps. 67

“May God be gracious to us and bless us; may He make His face shine upon us so that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.” (Ps. 67:1-2).  Continuing with a theme, that is our mission for our time here on earth.  We are to reflect God’s light and pass on His blessings so that others might also know His salvation.

Ps. 69

This Psalm is yet another prophecy of Christ’s death.  The line that really gets me is, “Though I did not steal, I must repay.” (Ps. 67:4b).  Yup – that was Jesus, paying the price for my wrongdoing.  All my misdeeds, wayward thoughts, bad decisions, selfish schemes…He paid the price for all of it.  The sin was mine.  The agony in this Psalm was His.

Ps. 70

This Psalm depicts the two outcomes for every human being.  Those who oppose God’s Chosen One face disgrace, confusion, rejection and humiliation.  For those who seek and rejoice in Him, on the other hand, God is their deliverance.
