Y3 Day 252 – Ezek 40; Ezek 41

For a full description of the (Y3) reading plan, see the “About” page.

  1. What attributes of God’s character does this passage reveal?
  2. How does the passage point to Jesus?
  3. How should the truth of this passage change me?
  4. How do the events of today’s reading help you better understand the grand narrative of Scripture?
Ezek. 40

We are definitely now in territory that I do not understand at all.  God took Ezekiel in visions to a high mountain in Israel.  There He showed him a new temple, instructing him to report all he saw to the house of Israel.  What follows is a very detailed description of a temple that has evidently never been built.  What gives?

Honestly, the only thing that comes to mind goes back to my thought that Ezekiel and his prophecies somehow represent Jesus and His mission on earth.  In this case, God sent Ezekiel, aka “son of man”, to the house of Israel to tell them all about the new temple.  I suppose, in its most basic form, that is exactly what Jesus did in His time on earth.  He taught at length about the Kingdom of Heaven and the new temple, or body of Christ, God is building there.  The construction details are obviously vastly different, but it is all that comes to mind.

Ezek. 41

Again, no real thoughts with this chapter.  All I have is a curious observation.  I noticed that the interior of this new temple was overlaid with wood rather than the gold that dominated in Solomon’s temple.  What, if any, is the significance of that?  Clueless.  It is, however, a rather unexpected detail.
