Y3 Day 253 – Ezek 42-43; Ezek 44

For a full description of the (Y3) reading plan, see the “About” page.

  1. What attributes of God’s character does this passage reveal?
  2. How does the passage point to Jesus?
  3. How should the truth of this passage change me?
  4. How do the events of today’s reading help you better understand the grand narrative of Scripture?
Ezek. 42-43

There seems to be some kind of message in the pattern, design, and measurements of this temple Ezekiel saw.  Sadly, it is lost on me.  What is it about the description of this temple that might have caused the people to be ashamed?  I get the message that their shame was in their disregard of God’s holiness.  I just can’t see how the temple description brings that out.

Ezek. 44

So many questions!  So many things I don’t understand.  “Take careful note of the entrance of the temple along with all the exits of the sanctuary.” (Ezek. 44:5b).  What does that mean?  And what about the Levites who went astray?  God forbade them to serve as priests or come near the holy things, but made them responsible for the temple duties.  No idea what that means either.

Much of this stuff is similar to God’s original laws and temple design, but there are differences.  Maybe that is an indication that when God fulfills His promise to restore things back to the way they should be, He will do it differently than He did before.  The first time around God allowed His name and His holiness to be defiled and disregarded.  He did this to show us our inadequacy and move us to shame over it.  His restoration, however, will be different.  We won’t be able to dishonor that because it will be entirely based on Him.
