Luke 16

There is a lot I don’t understand in this chapter.  However, I do see some truths about worldly wealth in Jesus’ words.

  • Worldly wealth will fail (vs. 9).
  • Worldly wealth is not genuine (vs. 11).
  • Worldly wealth is not ours (vs. 12).
  • We should not serve worldly wealth but, rather, use it for eternal benefit.
Luke 17:1-10

Serving God does not make us worthy sons.  Only God’s grace can do that.

John 11

I tend to think of the resurrection as Martha did – as an event that will take place at the end of time.  However, Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.” (From Jn. 11:25).  So the resurrection is not an event, but a person.  What exactly does that mean?

Toby Mac sings a song called, “Promised Land”.  The song suggests that the Promised Land is not actually a place but, rather, the person of Jesus Christ.  That makes so much sense, because it is in Christ that we dwell in God’s presence, which is what the Promised Land for the Israelites was really all about.  God’s presence, not the land itself, was the point of the promise.  So I’m thinking that maybe the resurrection is a similar thing.  The concept of resurrection is that what was dead becomes alive.  It seems, then, that this isn’t just something that Jesus does to us.  Rather, it is something He is for us.  God’s presence is life.  We are dead because our sin keeps us from Him.  But when we have Jesus, death is no more because He becomes God’s presence in us.  He becomes our resurrection.
