Y4 Day 3 – Gen 3; Matt 3; Ezra 3

For a full description of the (Y4) reading plan, see the “About” page.

Gen. 3

“The woman saw that the tree was…desirable to make one wise” (from Gen. 3:6).  Wisdom comes from God alone.  If we believe, as Eve did, that we can find it anywhere else, we have been deceived.  The truth is that any so-called wisdom that opposes God is foolishness.  Just ask Eve.

Matt. 3

We can’t fix what we won’t admit is broken.  Man broke his relationship with God by breaking God’s command.  As Sovereign Creator, God is in the right.  Which leaves us, searching elsewhere for what we can only find in God, in the wrong.  That’s where repentance comes in.  Without that acknowledgment that we are wrong and God is right, there is no restoration.

Ezra 3

In the seventh month after their return to Israel, “the people gathered together as one man to Jerusalem.” (Ez. 3:1b).  I find that to be an interesting description, given that Paul tells us we are one body in Christ Jesus.  It depicts a unity of purpose centered on God.  Wouldn’t it be nice if people could say of the Church that we came together as one man?
