Gen. 29
I still love the fact that God chose unloved Leah through which to fulfill His promise. I love that He noticed her and gave her something valuable that her sister didn’t have. Though God doesn’t always grant us that kind of vindication, we can know that He sees us and loves us even when nobody else does, just as He did Leah. And she is one more point of evidence that God did not rely on any human strength or attribute in executing His plan for us. Jesus came to us, not because of anybody’s strength, beauty, cunning, power, or position, but because of God; the same God who had compassion on a lowly, unloved sister.

For whatever reason, as I was reading this this morning, the angel’s words jumped out at me. Specifically, that he told the women, “Come”, and then, “Go”. Isn’t that the call to all of us? First we come see. We see the truth about our risen Savior and surrender our lives to Him. Then we go tell. We tell the truth we have seen and accepted so that others might also come. Come see, go tell, and follow Jesus where He leads.

I wonder what prompted Esther to make her appeal to the king across two banquets as she did. It proved to be the perfect set up for Haman. But she couldn’t have known things would go the way they did when she planned it. Though she didn’t know specifics, perhaps she figured that giving Haman’s pride both cause and time to swell would contribute to his fall. Whatever the case, it is pretty clear to me that somewhere in those three days of fasting God granted her some wisdom.
