Lev. 11-12
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. It doesn’t take much reading through the Law of Moses to get a sense of what Jesus meant when He said, “My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matt. 11:30). It sounds to me like even preparing a dead animal for food was enough to render a person unclean for a time. What a tedious, impossible life! Thank God that Jesus makes us forever clean.
Ps. 13-14
In Psalm 13, David feels like God is hiding His face from him. He feels like his enemy is being exalted over him. But in the end, he knows that how he feels doesn’t dictate what really is. Thus, even from his deep sorrow he was able to say, “I will sing to the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me.” (Ps. 13:6).
Prov. 26
Proverbs 26 verses 4 and 5 seem to say exact opposite things. I don’t claim to fully understand the meaning of either verse, but I do have a couple of thoughts about them. The NASB helps out with one thought by using “according to” in verse 4 and “deserves” in verse 5. Thus, if you answer a fool’s folly with more folly (according to), you, too, are a fool. On the other hand, if you answer his folly as the folly that it is (as it deserves), which I see as answering him with truth, you reveal that folly. The other thought I recently read in a book. The idea with that one is that no matter how you respond to a fool – whether you answer him or not – he remains a fool.
