Ps. 7-8
Psalm 7 is another example of David’s seeking vengeance from God against his enemies rather than taking vengeance himself. He is confident that those who are pursuing him are without cause and he maintains his integrity by seeking refuge in God alone.
John 7:28-53
In John 7:37-38, Jesus, on the last day of the Feast of Booths, stood up in the temple and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water’”. The timing and location of this act was very intentional on His part.
At that time on the last day of the feast, there was a water ritual that the priests performed. They would go to the Pool of Siloam to draw water, which they then brought to the Temple and poured out on the altar while scripture was read and blessings were said. From what I found, the passage that was read was Psalms 113-118. The entire ritual, including that scripture passage, points to God’s Messiah. What Jesus did, with his statement and the timing of it, was to declare Himself the fulfillment or the object of that ritual. Wow. That’s why His words created such a division among the people there. Some believed, while others wanted to kill Him. The Truth is like that.
