Day 148 – Ps 24-26; John 10:22-42

Ps. 24-26

Ps 25:7 says, “Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O LORD!”  Because God is good, He chooses to “remember”, or see, us through the lens of His steadfast, unmovable love rather than looking at our sin.  Jesus is that lens of love through which God sees us. Through Jesus, the guilt of our sin is wiped away so that God can see us as if it never happened.  Not because we are good, but because God is good.

John 10:22-42

People baffle me, though I am sure that I am often guilty of the same, or similar, baffling behavior.  They ask Jesus to tell them if He is the Christ, and when He says that He is, they seek to stone Him!!  I can see the problem, though – they are asking the wrong question.  What they really want to know is if Jesus is the One who will free them from Rome.  That is what they care about.

Jesus, who was indeed “The Christ”, did not meet their expectations of what they believed – and wanted – The Christ to be.  We humans tend to be so short-sighted.  They could not, and probably did not want to see the bigger picture.  Nor did they want to face the fact that what they really needed saving from was themselves.  They had it all worked out, and all they needed was for God to quit dallying around and to put their plan into action!  But it isn’t, never has been, and never will be about what we want or think or believe.  It is not about our plan.  It is about God and about His plan for us.
