Day 157 – Ps 109-110, 138; John 16

Ps. 109-110

Psalm 109 is yet another Psalm with many words that could have come straight from Jesus’ mouth.  Very fascinating.  A good portion of the Psalm is David (or Jesus?) cursing those who hate him – those who do evil.  In verse 17 he says, “He loved to curse; let curses come upon him!  He did not delight in blessing; may it be far from him!”  The following verses describe ‘his’ cursing as becoming like the garments he wears and even soaking into his very bones.  So forget, ‘you are what you eat”, it seems that you are what you live!  Lord, let me focus on living well; a God focused, generous life, that I may wear your love as my belt and your righteousness might wrap around me like a coat!

Psalm 110 is definitely a Messianic Psalm!  To me, it speaks of Christ’s coming glory, when He will sit at the right hand of God while they execute judgment on the whole earth.  Even so, Lord, come!

Ps. 138

“I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;” (Ps 138:1)

John 16

Jesus’ preparation speech to His apostles continues, and one thing in particular stands out to me this morning.  In verse 33, Jesus states that we have peace in Him and tribulation in the world.  Jesus did not bring peace to the world (He said so Himself elsewhere), He brought peace to His people.  Anyone who belongs to the world, has tribulation.  We are in the world, so we also experience this tribulation, especially at the hands of those who are of the world. But we are not of the world, because we belong to Christ.  As long as we abide in Him we have peace, in spite of the tribulation around us.  And we can, as Jesus said at the end of that verse, “take heart;” for He has “overcome the world.”
