Day 198 – 2 Kings 17-18; Gal 4

2 Kings 17-18

I want to be like Hezekiah.  Of all the kings of Judah, Hezekiah was the one who was wholeheartedly committed to God alone.  2 Kings 18:6 says, “he held fast to the LORD.”  It was Hezekiah who finally removed the high places, the Asherah poles, and even the bronze serpent that Moses had made, which all the kings before had left in place.  Now that’s what I call cleaning out the closet!  Because Hezekiah trusted God and held fast to Him, “the LORD was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered.” (2 Kings 18:7).  When we commit ourselves to God, He is always faithful to be with us.

Gal. 4

In this chapter, Paul gives yet another example of the allegorical nature of the Bible.  I love this, not just because of the lesson it teaches about those born according to the flesh verses those born through promise, but also because it demonstrates the nature of God’s Word.  It is a confirmation that the Bible is full of parallel meanings and imagery.  Many, if not all, of the stories tell another story.  And these multi-layered stories show us God’s Plan.  I am so in awe of how intricately God’s Word all fits together.  I would have loved to sit with Jesus as He explained the scriptures to His disciples, unlocking its secrets for them. But thank God He gave us His Holy Spirit, who reveals these things to us as we take the time to dwell with Him.
