1 Chron. 17-19
King David wanted to build a house for God. Instead, God promised to build a house for David. David was speaking of making a cedar house, but God was speaking of making an eternal name for David by establishing his throne forever – a different kind of house altogether. And indeed, God made a direct line from David to God’s own Son, Jesus Christ, who reigns forevermore. Isn’t it just like God to take what we offer Him – in David’s case, a house – and give it back to us, magnified and multiplied beyond measure?
1 Cor. 13
I have mentioned several times that I often wonder about faith. Jesus said that with faith the size of a tiny little mustard seed, mountains will move at our command. I don’t know about you, but I have enough trouble moving myself in the right direction, let alone tossing mountains around. So how small must my faith be? But here I read, “if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” Well that’s good news! Not having the faith to move mountains does not make me a failure or render me useless to God – not having love does that! Love is hard, to be sure, but it is something I can work on, with God’s help. And I have a feeling that if I work on the love part, the faith will be there when I need it.
