Is. 32-33
Fools “utter error concerning the LORD” (Is 32:6), and scoundrels “ruin the poor with lying words” (Is 32:7). Satan is the Father of Lies, but God is Truth. The importance of constantly seeking to know the truth is ever more impressed on me as I see the lies and errors of scoundrels and fools running rampant around me. Jesus and the apostle Paul both warned of wolves devouring the flock, and the book of Jude also speaks of those who creep in unnoticed and “pervert the grace of our God” (Jude 1:4). Yes – there are wolves among us spreading their lies! We need to know the truth; we need to know the voice of our Good Shepherd so that we will not follow into their folly. “O LORD, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.” (Is 33:2).
Rom. 3
God chose the Jews for a special purpose. Through them He reveals His righteousness and faithfulness, and they are a central part of His plan for the redemption of those who believe in Him. They are a special people. The Law God gave the Jews plays a big part in the fulfillment of their special purpose. The intention of the law was never to make anybody righteous but, rather, to reveal our unrighteousness and our need for God.
And so the Jews are still in the same boat as the rest of us. None of us are righteous. We all need God’s grace through Christ Jesus to restore a right relationship with Him. As Paul says, “For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.” (Rom 3:28). And it is only through faith that we are able to uphold the law – not that we make efforts to follow every jot and tittle of the letter of the law that God gave the Jews, but that we live by faith in humble obedience to God and His righteousness.
