Ezra 5-7
Clearly God made Himself known to the foreign kings under whom the exiled Israelites served. Cyrus and Darius both obviously recognized the power of God and the importance of supporting His people. Not only did they decree the rebuilding of God’s temple, but they also provided the materials for the effort. We see in Ezra 6 that Darius even supplied everything required for the Jewish sacrifices. “…that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven and pray for the life of the king and his sons.” (Ez. 6:10). And he went one step further, saying, “May the God who has caused His name to dwell there overthrow any king or people who shall put out a hand to alter this, or to destroy this house of God that is in Jerusalem.” (Ez. 6:12a). Indeed, Darius understood that God blesses those who bless His people and curses those who curse them.
Rev. 11
Finally! We see some of the people that dwell on the earth in the end times give glory to the God of heaven. It took seeing two prophets who had been dead in the street for three and a half days come back to life and then rise up into the clouds, followed by an enormous earthquake that killed 7000 people to get them to that point, though. The text says they were terrified, and rightly so. I get the impression these are some of the same people who were rejoicing and making merry over the deaths of these two prophets just a few days before. Rough way to find out you were on the wrong side of things.
