Ex. 14-15
“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (Exodus 14:14) This is very similar to Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God.” Be silent. Be still. Trust.
Did I mention that, as far as we know, Moses was the youngest of his siblings? Once again, the last shall be first…
Matt. 26:36-75
How great was the temptation for Jesus to call for those legions of angels when they came for Him in the garden of Gethsemane? Perhaps His prayers leading up to this event were not so much for the strength to face what he had to face as they were for the strength to resist the temptation to do what was well within His power and escape it. Note what He said to His friends – “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matt 26:41) I know it is something of a fine distinction, but it seems to me an important one, as it indicates to me that Jesus really did have a choice here and He had to resist the temptation to make the wrong one. It is one thing to ask for strength to face the unavoidable, it is something else entirely to ask for the strength to willingly walk into that extremely difficult situation when you have the option not to. Either way, though, there is no denying the difficulty of what Jesus willingly did for us.
