Num. 26-27
So when God swallowed up the three rebels who rose up against Moses and Aaron, for some reason He did not take the sons of Korah – one of the three men. The other two were swallowed up with their families and all that they owned. I don’t know why God spared the sons of Korah, but I believe the descendants of Korah are the “sons of Korah” who wrote many of the Psalms. I find that interesting. It just strikes me as an example of God’s redemptive grace and how He does beautiful things with those whom He spares. I also like that God listens to a just ‘complaint’, as He did with the daughters of Zelophehad.
Luke 1:1-20
Here is one more example of how we just can’t seem to see past our own human perspective to truly believe that all things are possible with God. Though we know who He is and what He has done, still we limit Him and doubt His word. I always say that it is hard to know if I am hearing word from God or just the ramblings of my own mind. And I like to think that if an angel was standing before me, especially in a holy place like the temple, that I would know and accept God’s word for what it was. But in reality, I am likely no different than Zechariah.
Jesus says that His sheep know His voice. So if I can’t tell if it is me or God talking, it is because I am not focused fully on God and because I do not fully trust in Him. And I am afraid this is something I will need to work on every day of the rest of my life! May I be intentional in this effort.
