Eph. 3
We know Christ loves us. He would not have died on the cross for us – in our sinful state, no less – if He did not. But do we truly, as Paul said, “grasp how wide and long and high and deep” (Eph. 3:18b) Christ’s love is? Paul’s statement covers every known dimension, indicating the boundless nature of this love. Boundless! How do we grasp boundless? Paul said that such knowledge can’t be known without power from God. Thank God that He gives the power “to know this love that surpasses knowledge” (Eph. 3:18a, 19a) to all who seek it. It is surely a knowledge worth seeking; a knowledge that changes you forever when you find it.
1 Kings 9-10
What is God’s promise to Solomon? God’s warning? God accepted the temple Solomon built for Him. His acceptance, however, was conditional. God told Solomon that if Israel and her leaders turned away from Him, He would reject the temple. I think this was actually more of a prophecy than a threat. God knew that the conditional part of His promises with His people would not be kept. But that was all part of His plan from the start. God never intended to establish His eternal throne from David’s line in a temple built with human hands. His plan was to make us, the body of believers, His eternal dwelling place through the unfailing work of His son, Jesus Christ. A temple built by God, no human effort involved.
