Ps. 26

“Test me, LORD, and try me; examine my heart and mind.” (Ps. 26:2).  That is a prayer I need to be praying all day, every day.  If there is anything in me that is not devoted to God, I don’t want that seed to take root.

Ps. 40

Once again, there is much about this Psalm that prophesies the work of Jesus Christ.  One section in particular that stuck out to me starts where it says, “Then I said, ‘See, I have come; in the scroll it is written about me.” (Ps. 40:4).  That was Jesus’ message when He began His public ministry.  It goes on to speak of how Jesus proclaimed God’s righteousness, faithfulness, and salvation to the masses.

The statement that really got me, though, is, “I delight to do your will, my God” (Ps. 40:8a).  I thought about Jesus praying in the garden before His arrest.  “Delight” is not the word that comes to mind!  Yet still Jesus said, “not my will, but yours, be done.” (Lk. 22:24b).  So once again I see the need for a longer-term perspective for our lives here on earth.  Even though the process is not always delightful, we can still delight to go through it, knowing the outcome that awaits us on the other side.

Ps. 58

“Yes, there is a reward for the righteous!  There is a God who judges on earth!” (Ps. 58:11b).  Faith is wholeheartedly believing statements like this and living accordingly even when the great deceiver would have us believe otherwise.
