Ps. 119
There is so much in this Psalm! There is wisdom, Messianic prophecy, encouragement, and truth. The Psalm is an acrostic poem, with a section for each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. I thought this morning how appropriate that was. This Psalm is all about God’s law. So, with the acrostic format, we could say that it gives us the abc’s of life. I decided to take that thought and run with it. As I read through each section, I jotted down an overall truth we can learn from that section to guide our lives.
The ABC’s:
Aleph– Walk in God’s ways.
Beth – Give Him your whole heart.
Gimel – Know that God is good.
Daleth – We need God; choose life in Him.
He – Remain faithfully on His path.
Waw – Hold to God’s promise, it is our salvation.
Zayin – God’s promise is our comfort in hard times.
Cheth –God is our good.
Teth – Let affliction draw us closer to God.
Yod – Our lives are a testimony to God.
Kaph – Do not grow weary in waiting for God.
Lamed – God is sovereign and trustworthy.
Mem – Wisdom and understanding come from God.
Nun – God protects us from evil’s trap.
Samek – Fear God and shun evil.
Ayin – God’s promise is for His faithful ones.
Pe – God’s ways are more desirable than our own.
Tsade – God’s righteousness is everlasting.
Qoph – Seek the LORD because He is near.
Resh – Life is with God, our Redeemer.
Sin / Shin – Rejoice in God who is our peace.
Taw – God is our help and our salvation.
