Jer. 30

God told His people that their injury was incurable; there was no remedy or healing for their pain.  This is the human condition.  It is a severe wound that cannot be healed.  But then comes the good news.  God said, “But I will bring you health and will heal you of your wounds” (Jer. 30:17a).  This is the message of the Bible.  We have a serious problem and God is the only solution to that problem.  What a miracle of unfathomable love and grace that the holy creator of the universe invites us to come to Him!

Jer. 31

I think part of the purpose of the Bible is to show us that God is faithful to His word; it will not fail.  Therefore, we can know with assurance that He will see His great plan out to completion.  In the Bible we see His faithfulness to His people.  We see His word come to pass over and over again.  While most of His word seems to be either ancient history or something yet to come, I see a few little nuggets that we can look at year after year to see that His word still holds.  One of those nuggets is in this chapter, where God promises that Israel will never cease to be a nation.  And here they still are.

To me, this explains why people have repeatedly targeted the Jews, more than any other people group, in an effort to end their existence.  Until God’s final judgment, the evil one will never cease trying to undermine God.  Though he will never succeed, he will always try to defy God and render His word untrue.  Ironically, his efforts only serve to validate God that much more.
