Ex. 22
Paul’s words to the Romans came to mind as I read this. “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” (Rom. 13:10). All of these laws are about respect, justice, and intention. Love does not take advantage of another, nor does it misplace accountability.
John 1
Yesterday’s reading in Job made me feel infinitely small before an infinitely big and great God. Today, here in John, I read that this same God became flesh and dwelt among us to take away the sin of the world. He who is infinitely big became infinitely small. I can think of no greater status decrease than that. He even went so far as to make Himself the lowest of the low. He humbly served those who should have been serving Him. And He took time for the least important and least valued among us. Is it too much to ask for me to lower myself one tiny iota to do the same?
Job 40
It seems Job got the same message I did from God’s words in yesterday’s reading. His response to God? “Behold, I am insignificant; what can I reply to You?” (Job 40:4a). I don’t think we can marvel appropriately at all God does for us and how undeserved any of it is until we fully grasp the truth of our own insignificance.
