Lev. 7
There were so many specifics involved with the various sacrifices! God dictated what to bring, how to offer it, how to distribute the various parts, and even, in some cases, when and where to eat them. As I mentioned a few chapters back, I wonder as to the message in all of those specifics. I’m just not seeing it. Three details in particular, which all result in separation, spark my curiosity. The first is eating the peace offering after the second day. The second is eating the peace offering in an unclean state. And the third is eating any fat or blood. It is, of course, possible that God laid out all of these details simply to test the obedience of the people. I still can’t help but think, however, that they say something about our salvation and life in Christ.
Ps. 7-8
Both of these Psalms make mention of the end of wickedness. This is a promise God gives us through His Messiah. But what does this look like? Who are the wicked? In truth, we are all wicked because we have all, in some way or another, turned from God and gone our own way. We have all missed His standard of perfect righteousness. So if God were to put an end to wickedness through judgment, we would all die. Thankfully, God chose a better way. He offered mercy. For those of us who accept and receive this mercy, He cleanses us of all unrighteousness. Thus, He puts and end to our wickedness and we live in His righteousness. And those who refuse His offering bring His judgment down on their own heads.
Prov. 22
“The reward of humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, honor and life.” (Pr. 22:4). Notice these are rewards. True riches, honor, and life are not things we can work for and earn. If we think that we have, then we have pursued something other than humility and the fear of the LORD, and we will surely lose what we thought we had.
