For a full description of the (Y3) reading plan, see the “About” page.

  1. What attributes of God’s character does this passage reveal?
  2. How does the passage point to Jesus?
  3. How should the truth of this passage change me?
  4. How do the events of today’s reading help you better understand the grand narrative of Scripture?
1 Jn. 1

When we point others to Jesus, we aren’t just opening the door to fellowship with God for them, we are also opening the door to fellowship with us.  This is because we, too, are in fellowship with God.  Thus, we become connected to one another, like a family.  However, I think this fellowship is a connection much deeper than family ties.  We actually become part of the same body.  Therefore it is impossible for each individual life to not somehow impact all the others.  It is way more than we are able to comprehend.  Fortunately, though, all we have to concentrate on is staying in God’s light and He will help us with the rest.

1 Jn. 2-3

Like Peter and Jude, John wrote to combat the deceptions of those who falsely professed to belong to God.  He makes a point of explaining how to discern if one’s walk coincides with his talk.  This is what a friend of mine calls being a fruit inspector.  John’s instructions guide us toward being what the author of Hebrews describes as, “those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” (Heb. 5:14).
